RSO 2024 Season Saturday 15 June – Pilbeam Theatre Virtuoso! with Andy Firth
The Capricornian presents Virtuoso! with phenomenal clarinet virtuoso, Andy Firth and Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra
Conductor Owen Clarke has devised an exciting fusion of jazz and classical music, featuring Mozart’s famous Clarinet Concerto and Artie Shaw’s contemporary Clarinet Concerto, renowned for its virtuoso cadenzas. Andy Firth is widely regarded as one of the most outstanding clarinet players in the world today, having played internationally with some of the greatest performers, bands, and orchestras in both classical and jazz music. Andy is a performer not to be missed!
Other works to be performed by Rockhampton Symphony Orchestra include Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture (Tchaikovsky), Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun (Debussy), Dance of the Knights (Prokofiev), Lezginka (Khachaturian) and Danzon No. 2 (Arturo Márquez).
Proudly supported by The Capricornian and Lupton Stewart Orthodontics. This project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance. “Andy Firth is a joy to hear. He is a virtuoso that goes beyond virtuosity. The joy and enthusiasm in his playing and teaching reminds us all of why art exists, and why as musicians we wanted to play music in the first place.” Victor Morosco US composer and woodwind master
